Artist Spotlight - High Scarlet

If you're a frequenter of this blog then you and I share a common drive. One which continually pushes us to find the next new track that, for one reason or another, makes you stop whatever you're doing and either A. Make a thizz face, B. Start bobbing your head to the beat, or C. Blare your speakers and start jumping around your apartment. High Scarlet's songs will make you D. All of the above.

Coming to you from Lancashire, UK, High Scarlet's music ranges from progressive electro to filthy dubstep but it doesn't stop there. Charlie Clough, the sole member of High Scarlet, describes his music as "very tonal and progressive, but at the same time simple and dirty as cat sick", and that is a spot-on analysis. Archetype is a perfect example of this, starting off with a nonchalant piano lead only to throw you off of the face-melting electro drum & bass that drops at 0:47. The remix of Pass Out melds together what may start out as a gritty combination of hip-hop/rap vocals and dubby womp builds into another blend of drum and bass madness backed by relaxed, almost jazzy melodies. Now, don't let those two get you thinking that High Scarlet is strictly a drum & bass machine. Omnicide holds some nasty drops and Weekend Paranoia (first feature in FMM #9) is a polar opposite, delivering dubstep wobble as a subnote to the piano lead.

Now, I usually try to limit myself to 3-4 songs in these posts but I'm going to have to insist that you listen to all 6 of the songs below. I guarantee at least one of those songs will strike a chord with you the same way it has with me. To start it off is the BRAND NEW track High Scarlet released literally hours ago! Want more? It's FREE!! So crank up your speakers and get ready to move!

Free Music Monday Tuesday #10!!!

Tis the season to go golfing with ornaments and bullets! This could catch on...

It's time for another (albeit delayed) edition of FREE MUSIC MONDAY!... on Tuesday. Since this is the tenth installment of FMM I'm filling it with eight NINE (yeah that's right) BASS-filled tracks to get your winter started properly. "How can EDM be proper and winter oriented?" It's actually quite simple as long as you stick to the following 10 steps.

1. Plug your computer/phone/MP3whatever into the largest speakers you own.
2. Turn up the volume
3. Make a cup of hot chocolate (add marshmallows as desired)
4. Curl up with the hot chocolate in the most comfortable chair you own
5. Cover yourself in a soft blanket (maximum comfort is your goal)
6. Press PLAY
7. Throw the hot chocolate and blanket into the air
8. Shuffle/jump around/wreak havoc (depending on the song)
9. Repeat with every new song
10. Make up a story to tell your roommates why there's hot chocolate on the ceiling

Here's my 3 4 favorite tracks for today followed by the other 5 after the jump. Enjoy!

Hey everyone! It's time for another edition of FREE MUSIC MONDAY! This week's tracks are so hot I'm currently registering 102°! Well, maybe the tracks didn't actually give me a fever, but that doesn't mean they aren't the cure! In any case, I'm keeping this short because my meds are starting to kick in and my ability to type coherently is rapidly fading. Crank up the bass and enjoy!!

Happy Thanksgiving!! Gobble Gobble WOBBLE WOBBLE!!

Deep fried turkey is a dish best served from a distance.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I hope you're all having a great holiday with friends and family and of course, FOOD! I mean really, that's what this meal holiday is all about right? Well, that and saying something you're thankful for so that you're allowed to participate in the feast that follows. Well even a SLO BASS Writer needs to share what he's thankful for (or else I have to sit at the kids table) so here it goes.

I am thankful for PANTyRAID. If it wasn't for this instrumental/electro/dubstep/hiphop duo then I may have never become immersed into this crazy world that is the EDM movement. I stumbled across their music while searching around the internet for new sounds and genres. PANTyRAID was exactly that (in my eyes ears). They showed me that electro wasn't all just thumping techno and trance. It was unlike anything I had heard before and since then it has been just about all that I listen to.

The first track below is the first track that I ever heard with the bass and wobble we all know and love. I've also included their Superior EP because, well, it's awesome! Check it out and have a great holiday!

Free Music Monday #7!!!

Psshhh, Otter Pops never blow up.

It's that time again! Time to shake off that "I feel hungover but I didn't drink last night... (okay, maybe I had a few drinks)" feeling that seems to creep up every Monday. In case you're new around here, this is the day that I post a bunch of FREE songs for your listening pleasure (and your neighbor's displeasure). I feel like I've been neglecting some of the sub-genres in the EDM scene, so today I'm mixing it up! If you're a fan of some funky beats, old-school dubstep wobble, gritty moombahton, chillstep, hardcore electro, glitchy remixes, trance-y club, OR massive drops then I have something for you!! Turn up your speakers and ignore your roommate's complaints. If the walls aren't shaking then the volume isn't high enough!

Artist Spotlight - Flinch

Adam Glassco, a.k.a. Flinch, has been a part of the EDM scene for a while now and I personally consider him to be one of the unsung heroes in the world of Dubstep. With and affinity for a combination of flowing melodies, slow wobbly basslines and massive drops, Flinch is always bringing something new to the table in both his remixes and originals.

The most recent addition to his library is a remix of Dan Sena's Song of Siren. This banger takes an otherwise chill song and throws gritty womps and high-pitched electro growls into the mix, all the while utilizing the original track's vocals to maintain an ominous theme. Classic Flinch if you've been keeping up with his releases in the past.

Song of Siren just released on Beatport so if you're a fan be sure to show your support and purchase it and other Flinch tracks there. Since I hate parting ways without throwing some free music your way I've included several of my favorite Flinch tracks for you to add to your library. Enjoy!
